In September CANALETTO Primitivo di Puglia igt 2004 was awarded with the silver medal at the New Zealand International Wine Show 2007.
Leading UK wine writer and Master of Wine Tim Atkin made the Canaletto Montepulciano d’Abruzzo his “Best Red wine under £8” in The Observer:
“This has become my default tipple at home over the past month or so. It’s just what Montepulciano should be all about: spicy, plummy and faintly raisiny with sweet tannins and masses of fruit flavours.”
In July 2007 Canaletto Montepulciano d’Abruzzo doc 2005 won the International Wine Challenge Montepulciano Trophy and it has also been awarded with the Great Value Red Wine Award for the Under £5 price category.
From the 9,358 wines entered into this year's International Wine Challenge, 260 met the judges exacting standards to win a coveted gold medal. From the 260 gold medal winners a total of 84 wines have won a distinguished IWC Trophy.
A large part of the IWC's reputation is down to the quality and experience of its judges. This year, more than 465 winemakers, merchants and writers from around the world took part.
What sets the IWC apart from other competitions is the number of times wines are tasted to earn their awards. At every stage, results are checked to ensure that justice is done to the wines entered, and that an even and consistent standard is applied to the judging of all wines.
In June 2007, Wine Access held the 2nd annual International Value Wine Awards (IVWA) focusing on wines under $25. The competition took place in Calgary, Alberta, and was assessed by the Wine Access Magazine tasting panel and a select group of active Canadian wine commentators from across the country that specialize in helping their readers negotiate the maze of wines available in the marketplace.
